CompTIA Tech Career Academy Launches Tech Discovery Learning Program in the UK
With nearly 200,000 open IT jobs throughout the UK and not enough workers to fill them, CompTIA Tech is offering a Tech Discovery exploratory learning program that teaches the fundamental skills needed to launch an IT career. Aligning with its mission of creating a more diverse IT workforce, CompTIA Tech is promoting this program to women, minorities and the disabled communities in the UK. Student tuition is funded by CompTIA Tech’s custom training partnership with Greater Manchester Combined Authority and the Digital Skill Partnership Lancashire.
“Taking the first steps down a new career path can be daunting to a lot of people,” said Kerry Harrison, lead for the Lancashire Digital Skills Partnership. “We are pleased to be working with CompTIA and their Tech Discovery program to give people in Lancashire and Greater Manchester the opportunity to gain the essential skills needed before pursuing a career in tech."
The program helps people determine if they have a competency for information technology and if it is the right career path for them. It also provides information to build technical skills in cybersecurity, data analytics, systems and networking and software engineering using virtual labs and practice tests.
In addition, soft skills training, including written and verbal communication, is taught, and career and job search guidance such as CV writing and building a digital presence is provided. Six months of support to transition to an entry-level tech job or apprenticeship also is offered.
Students who complete the course will receive the CompTIA IT Fundamentals+ certification that confirms they have the essential skills and knowledge to perform the basic tasks required for entry-level IT professionals.
The four-week online program starts on March 1 and is taught by CompTIA Tech instructors.
